Japan Stories: Food and Fashion

Dountonbori is a street in Osaka that is lined with restaurants of all sorts...

...while the main cross street is lined with hundreds of small boutiques that cater almost exclusively to young women’s fashion.

This was early Friday evening.  Look at all those people!

From what I could tell, young Japanese women as a group seem to be more fashion conscious than Americans.  Some outfits looked really nice.  Others were a bit more... out there.

Here's what I managed to capture in a few minutes at the bridge near Dountonbori...

One thing’s for sure this year:  Lace is in!  It was everywhere.  Usually layered over flowy dresses.

Scarves...

Black leggings...

She had a creamsicle thing going on here.  He seemed to want a taste.

Shoes.

I really liked this girl's outfit.  Too bad I couldn't get a better pic.

Different colored leggings.  Pink Tennie Flower girl was checking her out too.

Flowy.

Some had a more personal style.

What the guys were wearing.

Finally of course, there’s always Schoolgirl.

I also spent a Sunday at Takeshita Street in Harajuku, Tokyo.

As you can imagine, the outfits here veered towards cosplay.

Here's some standard lacy flowy stuff.

Even the kimono wearers had lace.

This street hawker is wearing my old cub scout uniform.  Apparently, she's a Bear Scout, not a Webelos.

Harajuku!
